Q: What are Bright Cats collar covers?

 A: They’re colourful fabric covers that slip over your cat’s collar. They help protect native birds by making cats more visible while hunting - reducing success rate.

Q: How do they help birds?

 A: The bright colours alert birds to your cat’s movement. Studies show this can significantly reduce bird deaths caused by domestic cats.

Q: Do they work with all collars?

 A: They’re designed to fit most standard breakaway cat collars.

Q: Can cats still hunt with the cover on?

A: Some cats may still catch prey, but the bright colours of the collar cover make them much more visible to birds — giving them a better chance to escape. Studies show that colourful collar covers can significantly reduce hunting success for birds. Covers are not designed to stop hunting of other wildlife, such as mice and skinks.

While it doesn’t always completely stop hunting, it helps make your cat less effective as a predator, which can make a real difference for native birdlife.

🔹 Using & Caring for the Collar Cover

Q: How do I put the cover on my cat’s collar?

 A: Just slide it over your existing collar — like a scrunchie. Make sure the breakaway function of the collar is still working.

Q: Will my cat accept the collar cover?

A: In most cases if your cat is already used to wearing a normal breakaway collar, it shouldn’t notice the cover.

Q: Is it safe for my cat to wear?

 A: Yes! The cover is soft and lightweight. It doesn't interfere with your cat’s movement or safety.

Q: Can I wash it?

 A: Yes, hand wash only. Hang dry to keep the colours bright and fabric strong.

 A: Shipping within New Zealand is $6.40 NZD (tracked)
